MEDICINE HAT, AB — As planning continues for a return to class in Alberta this fall, that includes working out details of how to keep post-secondary students safe in student residences in the days of COVID 19.

While other post-secondary institutions in the province have had to reduce capacity and limit the number of students in dorms, the Dean of Student Services and Registrar Sandy Henderson says the situation is a bit different at Medicine Hat College.

“We have townhouse-style residences which are a little different from the larger institutions that have big residential towers with twenty people on a floor, perhaps sharing facilities.”

Henderson says the college residences are four-bedroom units with multiple bathrooms allowing students to have more personal space.

Full details, including how students will be able to move into residence, will be worked out as they get closer to September, but Henderson stresses they will follow all provincial guidelines to ensure the health and safety of students.
