Hand sanitizers recalled over health concerns

Jun 10, 2020 | 10:04 AM

Health Canada is warning that certain hand sanitizers may pose health risks because they contain industrial-grade ethanol not authorized for use in hand sanitizers.

A recall notice was first issued for some hand sanitizers on June 6 and it was expanded on June 10.

Products from Nature’s Own Cosmetic Company, Applied Lubrication Technology, Tidol Corporation, Laboratoire Hygienex, R&D Technical Solutions and Wood Wyant have been added.

Full details including product names, lot numbers and expiration dates can be found on the Health Canada website.

Officials advise people to stop using these products and consult a health-care professional if you have used any of these products and have health concerns. Any adverse events or complaints should be reported to Health Canada.

Health Canada is also warning that some manufacturers of hand sanitizers are using packaging that is commonly used for beverages.

Officials advise people to keep hand sanitizer out of the reach of children and supervise them when using it. In the event hand sanitizer is swallowed, call a poison control centre or seek medical attention immediately.
