Thunderstorm watch issued for southern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Medicine Hat and a large swath of southern Alberta including Lethbridge, Brooks and surrounding counties.

Environment Canada is warning conditions are favourable for the development of storms capable of producing severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts, hail and rain Monday afternoon.

The thunderstorm watch area includes Cypress, Newell, Vulcan, Lethbridge, Taber, Wheatland and Warner counties as well as Special Areas 2 and portions of the County of 40 Mile near Skiff.

Thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for large hail, torrential rain or damaging wind, according to Environment Canada.
