The Post thrift store announces new location

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Post will have a new location in the downtown core in the next few weeks.

They announced today that they will be moving to the old Bargain Shop location on 450 3rd Street SE.

Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Cori Fischer says they hope to have more traffic.

And they’ll also be across the street from the Salvation Army.

The non-profit has been working on the move for the last three months. And have been talking for a while about moving the store to 3rd Street or 2nd Street.

Fischer says floor-wise, they are close to the same size but will have a bit less storage.

As for parking and unloading donations, customers can park in the back parking lot beside the Core Association.

Fischer hopes it will also be more efficient at that loading dock.

“Getting a little closer into the downtown area we seem to be just on that edge and so we were looking at that and reducing our footprint being a little bit smaller so we’re not taking up as much room. And we’re hopeful that potentially we might be moving our offices downtown as well which would then bring our organization close together.”

Fischer says there are no timelines on moving the office space, but the end goal is to connect The Post and Canadian Mental Health as one entity.

She hopes to have the new location ready for shopping in the next 2-3 weeks.

There will be COVID-19 public health rules in place when they open like having 10-15 shoppers at a time.

Donations for The Post are also not being collected at this time while they clean, paint, sort, and add shelving at the new location.

Fischer says they received lots of donations over the last month and the store will be full when they return.

All money raised at The Post goes back to mental health programming in Medicine Hat.
