Bow Island facing fines, former employee jail connected to water quality reporting

BOW ISLAND – The Town of Bow Island and a former employee are facing allegations they failed to collect and submit drinking water quality tests, report equipment or structural malfunctions in the water system as well as providing false information.

The allegations against the town and former employee Ryan Jeffery Sanderson, 47, include failing to monitor drinking water, submit samples for quality testing and collect chlorine residue samples between 2015 to 2016.

Court documents also allege Bow Island provided false information with an additional charge against Sanderson alleging he knowingly did so.

Each fine carries a maximum $50,000 fine against individuals and a $500,000 against corporations.

The additional charge against Sanderson of knowingly providing false information carries a maximum $100,000 fine and up to two years in jail.

The next court date on this matter is scheduled for June 9 at Medicine Hat Provincial Court.
