Nearly two weeks since phase one of Alberta’s relaunch

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Many changes have happened over the last two weeks for businesses who were able to open in phase one of Alberta’s relaunch.

Hair salons and barbershops are some of the businesses following the new protocols.

Owner of Cheerleader’s Barber Lounge Gina Lehr says it’s been smooth so far since reopening.

She says clients have been supportive and are happy to be back in the barber chair.

Adding, stylists are wearing masks and they’re only towel drying hair.

As far as sanitization, it’s the same as always with their cleaning procedures.

“We had to separate our chairs in the waiting room and we put a couple of chairs outside so in case people were waiting they didn’t have to wait in their vehicles and they can golf if they like. And all our chairs are 6 feet apart so we didn’t have to change anything there. Our laundry has increased quite a bit because we have to change our capes between each client so that’s a bit crazy,” Lehr said.

Meantime, the owner and stylist of Bratt Pak salon Denise Yeast says their clients are excited to be back.

“Everybody is so thrilled to have an outing, to have an appointment, and get their hair needs taken care of. They all seem to feel really safe here. We’re back to doing what we love to do and what we know how to do. And we know how to be safe. Again, we have to flatten this curve and do our best so other businesses can get open in stage two and stage three.”

Along with sanitizing and COVID-19 questionnaire, Bratt Pak has also put up plastic curtain barriers between each station and created a family room for parents to bring their kids to wait so everyone can get a haircut.

“It is an empty room in the salon and we have just kept it very minimal, no toys nothing in there other than chairs. So if you have kids or more than one family member that wants to come into the salon at a time, you go into the room and we’ll call you out one at a time,” Yeast said.
