A live look at What’s Happening in the Park?

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Flowers and plants are blooming all over the city and Police Point Park is no exception.

As the weather warms up and more people enjoy their days at the park, the Nature Centre wants you to know what’s going on down there — and what’s coming up.

“With the Nature Centre being closed right now, back in April we started to post information and activities on Facebook and our website and we thought we’d take it one step further,” said park interpreter Marty Drut.

On Friday at 11 a.m. the centre will debut its Facebook Live program What’s Happening in the Park?

Drut says the weekly program will give people a look at the diverse natural and historic elements of the park. The topic of tomorrow’s episode is appropriate for this time of year.

“We thought we’d start with information about what flowers are out right now and so yeah its the middle of May and spring is here and things are starting to bloom,” he explained. “Some of the flowers might be familiar to people and some of them might not be so and also to let people know there’s going to be all kinds of things flowering through the spring, summer and into the fall.”

Drut said the live broadcasts will be posted on the Police Point Park Facebook page and encourages people to ask questions, and offer feedback and ideas for future episodes.

Drut says the park has already been busy this year and that people are following the physical distancing guidelines, something he hopes will continue during what’s expected to be a beautiful long weekend.

“The weather’s going to be nice, people aren’t going to be going out of town as much and we just ask people to be enjoying the park, and be respectful of one another and be respectful of the public health guidelines and just enjoy nature because that’s what the park is here for,” he said.
