COVID-19: Ninety-six new cases, another death reported in Brooks

EDMONTON, AB.- The Government of Alberta is reporting 96 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 10).

Recoveries continue to rise province-wide with 4,389 people listed as recovered, which is about 70 per cent of the total number of cases.

The province says there are just 1,747 active cases in Alberta and of that total there are 470 active cases here in the South Zone.

The city of Brooks which has seen over one thousand cases of the virus currently has 433 active cases of COVID-19, and 614 cases listed as recovered.

The province says there are 82 active cases among workers at the JBS Meat plant in Brooks. A total of 520 workers at the plant have since recovered.

An individual who tested positive for COVID-19 has reportedly died in Brooks, according to the province bringing the total number of deaths to six in the city.

A spokesperson for the province told CHAT News Today that the person who died was a man in his seventies with no connection to any of the long-term care outbreaks.

Both Orchard Manor and Agecare Sunrise Gardens in Brooks have declared a COVID-19 outbreak.

Medicine Hat is reporting one new case of the virus, bringing the total number of cases to 34. Eight cases are active and 26 have recovered.

Elsewhere in the South Zone, the County of Newell has 13 recorded cases of the virus, eight are active and five have recovered.

In Cypress County there are 10 cases of the virus. Three cases are active and seven are recovered.

The city of Lethbridge has 18 recorded cases. Six are active and 12 have recovered. Lethbridge County is reporting one case which is listed as recovered.

Both the Municipal District of Taber and the County of Forty Mile No. 8 are reporting two cases of the virus, both are listed as recovered.
