The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) has made what is believed to be the largest methamphetamine bust in Medicine Hat’s history.

Following a four-month investigation, ALERT’s Medicine Hat organized crime team seized 1.7 kilograms of methamphetamine and 20 grams of cocaine. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $127,000.

Following a four-month investigation, ALERT has seized 1.7 kilograms of methamphetamine in Medicine Hat. The seizure is believed to be the city’s largest.

“We know this region has been impacted by meth and its associated crimes such as thefts, break-ins, and violence-related occurrences. Police agencies are working together to disrupt these large drug trafficking networks and keep the community safe,” said Supt. Dwayne Lakusta, ALERT CEO.

About 67 kilograms of meth has been seized across Alberta since April 2017. Of that, about seven kilograms of meth has been seized in the Medicine Hat area.

According to ALERT the previous largest meth seizure in Medicine Hat happened in July 2019, when 1.13 kilograms was seized.

Amanda Montgomery, 48, and Keith McVittie, 50, have been charged with multiple drug-related offences.

Members of Medicine Hat Police Service, Calgary Police Service and the RCMP assisted in the investigation.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
