Driver facing charges after multiple police stops
MEDICINE HAT, AB – One K-9 unit, two vans and about five hours later, a 54-year-old male is facing numerous charges including dangerous driving and evading police.
According to Medicine Hat police, the drama started on April 21 at about 10:30 p.m. when police attempted to stop a white Chevrolet van observed driving erratically in the northeast area of the city. MHPS officers activated the police lights and the driver fled the area in the van at high speeds. Police opted not to pursue due to the risk to the general public.
Just after midnight on April 22 the same van was seen in the southwest area of Medicine Hat. Police again activated the lights, and the driver got out of the van and fled on foot. PSD Flint quickly located the male, who was found to be driving while suspended. He was charged for the offence and released from custody.
At about 3 a.m. the same day, police observed a Ford Econoline van travelling on First Street SW with the same male in the driver’s seat. He again failed to stop for police, but was found shortly thereafter in the 600 block of 16 Street SW and stopped. The driver fled again, and was again found and arrested quickly. The male now faces additional charges of dangerous driving, flight from police, resisting arrest, and refusing to provide a breath sample. This matter is still under investigation.
