All AHS health zones now reporting cases of suspect COVID-19

EDMONTON – The province’s chief medical officer of health delivered an update on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in Alberta.

This despite being in self-quarantine herself.

Appearing via video link, Deena Hinshaw said, “this is what the new normal looks like. . .We must adapt and find creative solutions.”

In the past 24-hours, Alberta Health Service’s South Zone has reported its first case and every health district has at least one case with 18 new cases reported.

Hinshaw said they will not be communicating the specific municipalities within health zones that have suspected cases unless a case of community spread. The cases in the south, central and north zones are travel related.

Alberta now has a total of 74 cases of presumptive COVID-19 cases.

There are also a number of developments regarding provincial operations.

Visits to correctional facilities including young offender centres have been suspended.

All programing at Alberta Parks centres have been cancelled and provincial recreation facilities are closed to the public.

Places of worship are no longer exempt from large gatherings while long-term care facilities are being asked to limit visits.

And the province is encouraging individuals to continue to donate blood.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
