FLC announces upcoming event cancellations, more Canalta shows postponed

Mar 13, 2020 | 2:54 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Family Leisure Centre has announced some cancellations as of Friday afternoon with respect to the current global concern over COVID-19.

On Thursday, March 12 the Alberta’s chief medical officer announced that events, where more than 250 people are expected, were to be cancelled.

The FLC says this means that their Tactical Ops Nerf Wars event that was scheduled for Saturday, March 21 as part of Raising the Curtain, and Demo Daze that was scheduled for Saturday, March 28 are cancelled.

As for any tournaments and games, the FLC says to please refer to information or contacts from the local organizing body (i.e. ringette, soccer, swim club, skating).

The FLC says they want the public to know their team and the leadership at the City of Medicine Hat are in close connection with Alberta Health Services and are monitoring all directives from the public health organization and the Government of Alberta.

The Crestwood Rec Centre and FLC, along with all rinks in Medicine Hat are currently open and are continuing City-led programs and activities within the guidelines of Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta.

They note, for those who are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill, including older adults and those who have serious chronic medical conditions, to use precaution and carefully consider the implications of visiting a public facility. If you are exhibiting signs of illness, please remain at home.

The FLC has also deployed additional staff to maintain a rigorous cleaning schedule and hand sanitizer is available for use at the Customer Service desk, while supplies last.

Meantime, according to the Canalta Centre The June 23 performance of Baby Shark Live! at the Canalta Centre has been postponed at the recommendation of the Government of Alberta.

The Roseanne Barr show on May 1 has also been postponed.

Here is a statement from Roseanne on this announcement:

“With some major venues and festivals throughout the United States making the decision to either cancel or postpone their scheduled events, and with California being the first to declare a “state of emergency” over the coronavirus, I feel that I cannot put my fans in a potentially unsafe environment that could lead to the spread of this illness or virus for those who attend my shows. My team will work hard to find alternative dates later in 2020/2021 with the producers, promoters and venues that have scheduled shows within the next 3 months. I wish all my fans and friends the very best as we all work to protect each other through these uncertain times.”

The Canalta Centre says this postponement is not specific to their venue and is occurring nationwide. As the future date for this event remains uncertain, we will be issuing refunds to every fan who purchased a ticket and encourage them to repurchase their ticket if and when a future date is set.
