MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Tigers fans will have to wait a little while longer to celebrate one of the most remarkable milestones in junior hockey broadcasting history.

The Canadian Hockey League’s decision to suspend operations for their member teams, including the Medicine Hat Tigers, over the COVID-19 pandemic will see the local club’s final five games of the regular season postponned.

That includes Saturday’s planned contest between the Tigers and Swift Current Broncos at the Canalta Centre, which would have been the 4,000th career broadcast for play by play man Bob Ridley.

He currently sits at 3,998 games called over his 50-year career in Medicine Hat and is regarded as one of the most iconic junior hockey broadcasters in Canada.

Before this week’s stunning news out of the sports world, Ridley sat down with CHAT Sports’ Scott Roblin to reflect on his career in what would have been a two-part series.

Here’s Ridley’s story in his own words of how he began in Medicine Hat, while part two of the interview series will run ahead of his 4,000th game whenever the Tigers return to the ice.
