LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police in Regina have apprehended a man charged with two separate counts of second-degree murder.

According to Edmonton Police Service (EPS), Mohamud Omar Dhiblawe, 29, was arrested at a residence in Regina on March 6, 2020, during an unrelated drug search warrant.

On Thursday, February 6, a 35-year-old man was found dead in a home on the 200 Block of University Drive West in Lethbridge following reports of numerous gunshots.

Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it was a targeted incident and the parties involved were known to each other. Investigators believe there was a verbal dispute surrounding the illicit drug trade.

A Canada-wide search warrant was issued the following day by LPS.

Two days later, EPS responded to a weapons complaint at an apartment on McConachie Blvd where Mohamed Makaran, 32, was found deceased.

“Autopsy confirmed Makaran died from a gunshot wound and the manner of death being homicide,” reads a media release from EPS.

EPS and LPS had each charged Dhiblawe with one count of second-degree murder.

The suspect will be transported to Edmonton next week.
