MEDICINE HAT, AB -Using a pair of virtual reality goggles can open the door to different house plans and maybe even your future home.

The virtual parade of homes is the first of its kind in the world, and it was unveiled Friday in Medicine Hat at the Sunshine Home & Garden Show.

The CEO of Enclave Ventures Don Sandford says this technology brings the future forward.

And it will help make decisions when buying a house without having to build a spec or show home.

“Gives people a chance to be able to design their house and personalize them as well. And allows us to build homes to a point where we can stop at the drywall stage use VR (virtual reality) and also allow people to personalize their home so they can move in much faster than ever before.”

Sandford is also the head of the Coulee Ridge and Connaught Commons developments in the city.

And for the first time at the trade show, you’ll get to see the actual interior of the homes that are planned in those developments.

“The second home that’s here that’s coming to Medicine Hat is called the commonplace home which is an ideal starter home for people who are planning their first home and that will be available in Coulee Ridge,” he said.

Mayor Ted Clugston even gave the virtual reality goggles a try and was there for the ribbon-cutting. “I think everyone is fairly aware that new home construction is in the tank frankly. And hopefully, this might get some people interested in it. Of course, we have some new lots coming available with Coulee Ridge.”

Sandford says the technology has room for growth, intending to showcase the virtual homes right on location.

“I would not be surprised if by the summer of this year we re-position this entire virtual parade of homes onto the Coulee Ridge site and we’ll have all of our builders showcased there at one time.”

Coulee Ridge is very popular, according to Sandford, and they’re working hard to get the site serviced by June 30 of this year so building can begin on July 1.
