Province lists 20 parks and campgrounds to fully or partially close this year

EDMONTON, AB — The Alberta Government has released its list of parks that will either fully or partially close across the province.

The list, released Tuesday, puts together a list of 10 parks that will be fully closing to the public. The list can be found below.

-Kehiwin Provincial Recreation Area

-Running Lake Provincial Recreation Area

-Stoney Lake Provincial Recreation Area

-Sulphur Lake Provincial Recreation Area

-Little Fish Lake Provincial Park

-Crow Lake Provincial Park

-Bleriot Ferry Provincial Recreation Area

-Greene Valley Provincial Park

-Twin Lakes Provincial Recreation Area

-Sheep Creek Provincial Recreation Area

Another 10 parks will see partial closures, where the remaining park areas will be open for public access, but unserviced. The list is below.

-Bow Valley Provincial Park – Barrier Lake Visitor Information Centre

-Gooseberry Provincial Recreation Area – Elbow Valley Visitor Centre

-Dinosaur Provincial Park – Comfort Camping

-Gooseberry Provincial Park Lake

-Engstrom Lake Provincial Recreation Area

-Chain Lakes Provincial Recreation Area

-Lawrence Lake Provincial Recreation Area

-Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park – Tolman Bridge Campgrounds (East and West)

-Notikewin Provincial Park

-Smoky River South Provincial Recreation Area

The province says the closures and partial closures will save them approximately $5 million per year. The closed parks total 4,432 hectares.

The province has also released a list of 164 sites proposed for partnership opportunities or alternative management approaches. Bullshead Reservoir and Michelle Reservoir in Elkwater Provincial Park are among the parks listed.
