MEDICINE HAT, AB – Ryan Chyzowski’s laser beam of a wrist shot was on full display Tuesday night, netting a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Chyzowski scored goals in each of the three periods on Tuesday, helping the Tigers extend their win streak to three games over the visiting Swift Current Broncos.

“Our line was just working,” said Chyzowski. “We had a lot of support all around the ice and I think we were just working hard and the chances were coming from that.”

Medicine Hat needed just 44 seconds to open the scoring, with Chyzowski netting his 28th of the season to give the Tigers the early lead.

Broncos winger Aiden Bulych was able to get the visitors back to even footing shortly afterwards however, answering Chyzowski’s goal three minutes later.

The Tigers continued to pepper Broncos netminder Isaac Poulter through the first period with 17 shots, however the second-year goalie kept it a 1-1 game into the intermission.

Six minutes into the second period though, the Tigers regained their lead with Parker Gavlas delivering a beautiful pass to the side of the net tapped home by Baxter Anderson for his second goal in three games.

“It feels good for sure when you can get a couple goals in the net,” said Anderson. “You build your confidence a little and keep plugging away at it.”

The Tigers closed out the period with another marker from Chyzowski, ripping a one-timer in the slot past Poulter to take a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

Chyzowski completed the hat-trick with a little over five minutes remaining in the third period, putting a wrist shot off the post and in to reach the 30-goal mark on the season.

Eric Houk was able to cut the gap to 4-2 shortly after with a rebound marker, but Tigers captain James Hamblin swiftly tacked on an empty-net goal to send the Canalta Centre fans home happy.

Tuesday’s hat-trick was the second of the season for the 19-year-old Chyzowski, who recorded the first of his career back on December 11 against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The line of Chyzowski, Lukas Svejkovsky, and Cole Sillinger combined for five points on the night and has been gaining chemistry game by game.

“I like how we’re all fitting in with each other,” said Chyzowski. “I think [Svejkovsky] brings a lot of speed and skill down low. And [Sillinger], obviously he’s got a good shot, he works real hard, and he’s a pretty special young guy.”

Poulter was named the night’s third star with a 47-save performance in the loss, while Garin Bjorklund made 19 saves in the Tigers net to earn his 19th victory of the season.

Outshooting the Broncos 52-21 with most of those chances coming at even strength, assistant coach Joe Frazer said he was pleased with his team’s execution of the game plan.

“I thought we did a really good job getting the puck low and then using our points getting out high, because they collapse really well,” said Frazer.

Thanks to a Calgary loss on Tuesday, the Tigers have moved six points clear of the Hitmen for third place in the Central Division with 79 points while also remaining two points back of Lethbridge for second.

Medicine Hat continues its five-game home stand on Friday night in a pivotal game between the Tigers and Hitmen at 7:30 pm.
