MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man found guilty of second degree murder in a 2016 homicide will wait longer to learn his sentence.

Noah Harrison Bentley, 29, appeared briefly in Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench Tuesday morning, where his sentencing was adjourned.

The reason for the adjournment was due to a risk assessment report to be completed by the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre is not yet completed.

Bentley was convicted in October 2019 on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Brenda Woloski. The 53-year-old woman’s body was discovered in a home on Third Street Southeast on November 12, 2016.

During the trial, Bentley admitted to stabbing Woloski multiple times. Bentley’s lawyer argued his client was not criminally responsible for the act, however Justice Glen Poelman rejected the argument, saying Bentley knew what he was doing.

Bentley will return to Queen’s Bench on March 13 where a sentencing date is expected to be set.

Conviction on second-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no possibility of parole for a minimum of 10 years.
