MEDICINE HAT, AB – The man convicted of the 2016 second-degree murder of 53-year-old Brenda Woloski last fall will have his sentencing hearing heard Tuesday at Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench.

Noah Harrison Bentley, 29, was arrested – shirtless with blood splatters on him – near the home of Woloski located on the corner of Third Street and Maple Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2016.

Woloski was found dead in her home from at least 13 stabs wounds with indications of strangling as well with Bentley telling police at the time of his arrest that he had, “killed a woman. I stabbed her in the face and neck and throat.”

The court heard the two had met at the Assiniboia Inn bar the night of the murder and walked to Woloski’s home from there.

During the first day of his trial in October, Bentley admitted to killing the woman with his defence counsel arguing the man was not criminally responsible for her death.

However, Justice Glen Poelman rejected that argument in finding Bentley, “had the capacity to understand what he was doing,” when he murdered Woloski in an unwarranted act of violence against the woman.

A second-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence with no eligibility for parole for a minimum of ten years.
