Deadline extended for Canada Summer Jobs Program applicants
GATINEAU, QC — The federal government has extended the deadline for employers who wish to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, made the announcement Friday morning, noting organizations who wish to be involved with the program can apply until February 28.
“Young Canadians are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are leaders today. That’s why our government is focused on ensuring they get the skills and training they need to succeed, while helping businesses during the busy summer months,” said Qualtrough in a statement. “Canada Summer Jobs is an incredibly important program for helping young people achieve this. Providing youth with opportunities for paid, meaningful work experience helps ensure they are equipped for the jobs of the future.”
Not-for-profit organizations involved in the program can receive funding for up to 100 per cent of the provincial/territorial minimum hourly wage and mandatory employment-related costs, according to a release from the province. Small businesses with 50 or fewer employees, along with public sector employers can received funding for up to 50 per cent of the minimum hourly wage in their province or territory.
