NEWARK, NJ – Trade season in the NHL has officially arrived and one of the latest faces to be switching teams is a former star with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

On Sunday, the New Jersey Devils announced they had traded captain Andy Greene to the New York Islanders in exchange for defenceman David Quenneville and a 2021 second round pick.

Quenneville starred for four seasons with the Tigers between 2014-2018, setting the franchise record for career points by a defenceman with 214 points in 250 regular season games.

A seventh round pick by the Islanders in 2016, Quenneville’s best season came in 2017-18 when he led all WHL defenders with 26 goals and 80 points in 70 games.

Splitting this season between the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers and ECHL’s Worcester Railers, the 21-year-old has netted one goal and eight points in 32 games.

Quenneville will be joining the same Devils organization that his brother John was a part of for three years before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks last summer.

As for Greene, he leaves New Jersey after serving as that franchise’s captain over the last five years and all 14 seasons of his career in Devils colours.

In 53 games with the struggling Devils this year, the 37-year-old Greene has posted two goals and 11 points.
