LAS VEGAS, NV — The St. Louis Blues says Jay Bouwmeester is continuing to recover after suffering a cardiac episode on the bench during Tuesday evening’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Speaking during a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said Bouwmeester remains in hospital in California, but is doing “very well.”

“Jay is currently undergoing a battery of tests to determine the how and why of what happened last night, but things are looking positive,” Armstrong said.

Bouwmeester, 36, collapsed on the bench during the first period of Tuesday’s game. He became unresponsive and a defibrillator on the bench was used to revive him. He regained conscious immediately and was immediately transported to hospital.

The Ducks and Blues agreed to postpone the game.

Bouwmeester, a former Medicine Hat Tiger, has played in the NHL since 2002.

Armstrong thanked the staff of the Ducks and the Honda Center for their life-saving actions.

Armstrong said Thursday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights will go ahead as scheduled.
