Youth conversations with Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Youth and young adults in Medicine Hat are joining in conversations this week to say what they like about the community and what needs to be improved.

The youth vital conversations survey for those between 15-29 years old is with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta thanks to a grant from the RBC Foundation’s Future Launch program.

A report of the findings is expected to be out in March.

Community Foundation Assistant Director Sue Edwards says the feedback from the college crowd has been well received.

“The youth like Medicine Hat. They like the size they like that they don’t have a lot of traffic. They like that it’s close-knit. But one of the issues that they’re finding is that there’s not a lot of job opportunities when they’re done school. They think it’s a great place to raise a family and retire.”

Edwards hopes the results will also help the Community Foundation decide where their next cycle of grants will go towards.

The Community Foundation is at the Brooks campus and local high schools this week, as well as Hell’s Basement Brewery from 6:30-8:00 pm tonight for 18-29 year-olds.

Volunteers will be back at Medicine Hat College from 10 AM -2 on Tuesday, February 11 outside the Vera Bracken Library.

Then they’ll be at Piston Broke Brewing in Brooks on Wednesday night.
