MEDICINE HAT, AB — It was a memorable year on the ice for hockey in our region.

The Medicine Hat Tigers looked to the past to lead their future, the Brooks Bandits continued their strong play, and some of the top young talent from around the world descended on Medicine Hat.

Here are some of the notable stories on the ice in Medicine Hat.

Clouston let go

In May, the Medicine Hat Tigers parted ways with head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston after 16 years total with the club.

Clouston had been involved with the Tigers since 2003, and served as head coach since 2010. When he left the team, he was the all-time leader in wins, with 375. Clouston currently coaches the Kamloops Blazers.

Welcome back, Willie

The Medicine Hat Tigers brought back a familiar face to be the head coach and general manager.

Willie Desjardins, who led the Tigers to two WHL Championships (2004 and 2007), was named head coach and general manager for the Tigers once again. Desjardins had spent several years in the NHL as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings.

As of the Christmas Break, the Tigers sit in second place in the Eastern Conference with a 22-10-1 record.
