Hat community once again spreading Christmas cheer

Medicine Hat, AB – It’s been a Christmas tradition in Medicine Hat for more than two decades and the residents of Park Meadows Estate are once again hosting the city’s largest holiday light display.

Thousands of lights make up the display in the courtyard of the complex.

An endeavour which doesn’t come without a lot of effort, according the two of the residents who make up the estate’s light committee.

“The biggest part is getting people to participate, which we did,” said Brian Johnston. “We had some donations locally to bring the lights up to standard and the (lit) animals and stuff like that. It’s probably taken a month to get it all together.”

For Ivan Ulriksen, there are no shortages of families coming to view the display. And they start filing in to the estate as soon as it gets dark until the lights get shut off around 10:30 p.m.

“I know they are very happy with the lights. They comment on how good they look,” said Ulriksen of the reaction from families.

Donation boxes are set up at the entrances to the courtyard in benefit of the Foodbank’s Brown Bag Lunch Program.
