MEDICINE HAT, AB – A rough end to first semester for Medicine Hat College’s basketball teams, wrapping up 2019 at home on Saturday night.

Both Rattlers squads fell in their final games of the semester to the Olds College Broncos, while each earning splits over the weekend following wins against Red Deer College on Friday.

Reigning CCAA national player of the year Brittney Thibeaux terrorized the Rattlers women’s squad in the opener with a 46-point effort, punctuating a 76-43 victory over a shorthanded Medicine Hat club.

Dressing just eight players on Saturday night due to injury, the Rattlers struggled from the field with only 18 of their 72 shots dropping and found themselves down 32-10 at halftime.

Morgan Muir was the only Rattler to reach double-digits in points with 21 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Rhiannon Ware contributed nine points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Going 3-3 over the month of November, the Rattlers women’s team heads into the break with a 4-5 record while standings were unavailable on the ACAC website as of Sunday evening.

Shooting troubles also plagued the Rattlers men’s team in the nightcap of Saturday’s double-header, falling 82-67 against the previously winless Broncos at the ‘Snake Pit.’

Despite only trailing by six points entering the third quarter, an ice-cold fourth sunk the Rattlers by only shooting 15.8 percent in the final quarter.

MHC wasn’t able to find their footing from beyond the arc either going 1-15 from three-point land, also hitting just 10 of their 19 attempts from the free throw line.

Kieron Burgess led the Rattlers with 17 points and 15 rebounds and was one of just two MHC players to hit double-digits in points, with rookie Eidan Jonker being the other.

Splitting their weekend following an 84-82 victory against Red Deer College on Friday, the 2-7 Rattlers men’s team will have some work ahead in the second semester chasing a playoff spot.

Rattlers basketball players will break for exams and winter vacation before returning to the court on January 9 for a pair of home games against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
