Wexit Alberta leader to attend meeting in the Hat on Sunday

Medicine Hat, AB – Whether you agree with the Wexit movement or not, there is no denying the nascent political movement is grabbing attention and on Sunday the group will be hosting a meeting in Medicine Hat.

“The main focus of why we`re coming to Medicine Hat is to show Medicine Hat that we haven`t forgotten about Medicine Hat. That Medicine Hat is such an important part of Alberta,“ said Wexit Alberta leader Peter Downing. “We remember the people there, the hard-working decent people who don`t take other people`s stuff, who really want to have just hope for the future, for their children, for their grandchildren for their businesses, for their industries.

Downing will be at the meeting and says the Wexit message is clear.

“We`re about literally fighting for Alberta and Western Canada with the only option we have which is separation,“ he said.

Downing was critical of those getting on the climate change bandwagon, including conservative politicians, as well as Liberal policies which have caused tens of thousands of lost jobs.

“That really does nothing than hurt Western Canadian industry and Alberta industry in general,“ he said.

The Wexit Alberta leader says the uptick in interest in the movement in the last few weeks is due to the growing realization, “that our federal vote doesn`t mean anything.“

Something Downing says is reflected in federal legislation seen as damaging the province`s oilpatch, unfair equalization regime and imposition of a carbon tax and a prime minister who has stated he`d like to see and end to the oilsands.

“That`s why (Wexit) has resonated here,“ said Downing.

Wexit Alberta`s Medicine Hat meeting will take place at the Medicine Hat Lodge from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 10.
