Health Canada recalls water bottles due to choking hazard

OTTAWA, ON. — Health Canada has issued a recall of water bottles manufactured by Contigo that pose a choking hazard to children.

The recall, issued Tuesday, involves Contigo Kids Cleanable water bottles, which were sold between April 2018 and June 2019. Health Canada says only water bottles with a black colour spout base and black colour are part of the recall.

The water bottle’s clear silicone spout can detach, which can become a choking hazard for children.

As of August 20, Contigo says they’ve received 30 reports of the spout detaching in Canada., but no reports of injuries. Approximately 157,000 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.
