Redcliff Library launches bicycle lending program

Redcliff, AB – The Redcliff Library is not just loaning books these days but bikes after launching a new lending initiative this month.

Five adult and two youth bicycles – as well as helmets and locks – are available to loan during the operating hours of the library to those who have a valid library card from anywhere in Alberta.

“It doesn`t have to be a Redcliff Library card. It can be Medicine Hat, it could be a Bassano Library card. As long as you are in good standing at your home library, you`re good to go,“ said Tracy Weinrauch, library manager.

Weinrauch says lending bikes is part of a trend for libraries to expand what services they provide to their respective communities.

“Libraries are definitely changing their lending for non-traditional items,“ said Weinrauch. “There are libraries out there that will loan out camping equipment, cake pans and now bikes.“

Weinrauch said libraries in B.C. have had an extremely positive response with their bicycle lending program, something she hopes will be replicated in Redcliff.
