Inmate at Drumheller Institution found dead, Correctional Service Canada investigating

DRUMHELLER, AB – Correctional Service Canada has confirmed an inmate serving out a drug trafficking sentence has been found dead.

According to a release, 42-year-old Jason Claude Tremblay died while in custody at the Drumheller Institution on Sunday.

There is no word yet on the cause of Tremblay’s death, while his next of kin have since been notified.

Tremblay had been serving a sentence of four years and nine months since March 27 after being convicted on drug possession and trafficking charges.

A lockdown has been implemented at the medium security unit while a search is being conducted, with visits at the Drumheller Institution being suspended as well.

Police and the coroner have been notified and Correctional Service Canada is reviewing the circumstances surrounding Tremblay’s death.
