CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – Cypress County remains under a state of local emergency with more than 160 hotspots still burning across 17,000 hectares of burned prairie south of Walsh.

Volunteer firefighters and ranchers were still on scene of the Graburn fire which begun on July 24, 2019 following a lightening strike and whipped up again into a larger fire on July 27.

Cypress County says a thermal imaging helicopter identified 166 hotspots.

Local residents remain on edge with nightly fire watches continuing and small crews utilizing hand-held thermal imaging units to micro target hotspots which have penetrated root systems.
