VIDEO: Reeve, residents speak about Irvine evacuation

DUNMORE, AB — Residents of Irvine evacuated following a train derailment Friday afternoon are being asked to check in to the emergency centre at the Cypress County town office in Dunmore, where Red Cross is assisting.

CHAT News spoke with Reeve Dan Hamilton, who advised residents about what they need to do.

Jennifer and Randy Radisic were among the people in the area evacuated, and spoke about what happened that afternoon when they learned they had to leave their home.

The Trans Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions in the vicinity of the derailment.

According to Alberta Emergency Alert, East bound travel for Highway 1 has been diverted around the scene by heading north on Highway 41, east of Dunmore, and then turning east onto Township Road 132 for approximately 34 kilometres. Traffic will then be required to turn south onto Range Road 13 and travel south to then access Highway 1 through the hamlet of Walsh.

West bound travel along Highway 1 has been diverted north at the entrance into the hamlet of Walsh where traffic will head north and access Range Road 12. Traffic will then turn west on Township Road 132 for approximately 34 kilometres to access Highway 41. Traffic can then turn south on Highway 41 to access Highway 1 just east of the Hamlet of Dunmore.
