RCMP Musical Ride coming to Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Medicine Hat Wednesday evening.

32 Mounties from across the country will be saddled up on their horses, performing multiple complex musical acts.

The event comes to Alberta every four years, helping raise thousands of dollars for local charities and non-profit organizations.

The Town of Redcliff, Redcliff RCMP and Redcliff Family and Community Support Services teamed up to bring the show to the Stampede grounds.

Money from the show will help raise money for Redcliff and Medicine Hat youth centres.

“We’ve been training really hard, and it’s so important for people to come out and help their communities, so we need everybody to come to this event so they can support us but not only us, so they can support their very own communities,” says Constable Jennifer Fraser, one of the riders.

Officers volunteer for the group, and commit to a three year term of performing. They only have six months to train on the horses before touring, but Constable Fraser says they get better every show.

“You get better every time that you’re on the horse, it’s time in the saddle, but we’re riding twice a day except for weekends and evenings, basically just to get better and put on the best show we can do,” she says.

The pre-show will be put on by the Dunmore Equestrian Centre.

Admission is $10, doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. at the Grandstand Arena.

The stable at the stampede grounds will also be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for anyone who wants to meet the horses.

The group just performed in Nanton on July 31, and move onto Strathmore for two shows on August 2 and 5.
