Redcliff’s Ross ‘becoming a leader’ for Team Canada

Jul 17, 2019 | 6:36 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — As a two-year member of the Canadian woman’s national team, Kaitlyn Ross’ voice will carry a little louder next month.

It doesn’t matter that she’s one of the youngest on the roster at just 18-years-old.

The catcher from Redcliff is one of ten returning players for Team Canada. They’re leading a group of 20 into the COPABE Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Aguascalientes, Mexico from August 18-25.

Her selection came after a three-day selection camp in Okotoks involving 25 players earlier this month. Prior to the camp, Ross helped Team Alberta win a bronze medal at the Canadian Women’s Baseball Championships.

Ross, who helped Canada capture bronze at the Women’s World Cup as a rookie last August, says she’s gained valuable leadership skills through her three years with Medicine Hat’s American Legion program.

She’s currently in her second year with the A-Class Knights of Columbus Knights, having previously played for the B-Class Majestics.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports spoke with Ross to hear her thoughts on representing Team Canada and the surrounding community for a second year, and the heightened duties she expects to take on at the World Cup Qualifier next month.

Plus, Knights head coach Lane Aman discusses Ross’s development with the American Legion program.
