MEDICINE HAT, AB — James Hamblin is ready to hit the ground running in Toronto.

The Medicine Hat Tigers captain was among 36 players invited to the development camp for the Toronto Maple Leafs, which kicked off Monday.

“It’s been a lot of just travelling and meeting people so far, but it’s been a good experience so far,” Hamblin said over the phone from Toronto on Monday.

The invite is the second development camp Hamblin has been invited to. He attended the Boston Bruins camp two years ago.

Hamblin says he’s hoping to get his name out there and showcase his skills at the camp this week.

“For me, it’s just trying to stick out as much as I can, and be the hardest worker at the camp,” he said. “I think that’s all I really can do, do my best every day, do it with a smile on my face and enjoy the moment. It doesn’t come every day, so I’m going to be grateful I have this opportunity.”

Hamblin is among four Tigers at development camps for NHL teams this week, joining recent draft pick Mads Sogaard (Ottawa Senators), Brett Kemp (New York Rangers) and Dylan MacPherson (Florida Panthers).
