Federal MP Glen Motz gives his take on filibuster

Motz says the last 24-hours have been tiring, but the Conservatives plan to use every tool at their disposal to get the answers Canadians are looking for.

“We’ve been non-stop voting since 6 o’clock last night,” explained Motz. ” It is a procedural process that the Conservatives have deployed because the Trudeau Liberals have not let Jody Wilson-Raybould complete her testimony and the Canadian people want answers for what’s going on with the scandal.”

The filibuster requires 257 separate votes on items in the government’s spending estimates. Any vote on government spending is automatically considered a confidence vote, meaning the Liberals have to keep their numbers up to avoid potential defeat of the government.

Motz says the Liberal Government and Prime Minister Trudeau have tried to turn the channel on the SNC Lavalin affair and have even tried burying it under their new Liberal budget.

“Trudeau has shown contempt to Parliament and it’s the duty of the Members of Parliament to hold him accountable for that. The national media has picked this up. They’re not covering the budget. The Liberals want to turn the channel to the budget. They’re not covering the budget.”

Motz says Canadians aren’t about to roll over and let this one slide.

“Trudeau and his team have to be accountable to the Canadian public.”

Motz says even though this is partially about letting Wilson-Raybould speak, it isn’t the whole story.

“This is democracy, this is the rule of law. No role of government, no head of government, no top level officials have any authority to interfere with the independence of the justice system. That’s fundamental to the rule of law in this country.”

He believes it’s time for Trudeau to come clean and face the facts.

“I mean yesterday, he (Trudeau) was telling us there was 9,000 jobs to be lost with SNC-Lavalin and we proved that to be and outright lie. He’s got no authority to lead our country. He’s lost that and so, it’s a huge deal. It’s a huge deal to Canadians. If they wish to learn the facts.”

As of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the filibuster was still ongoing.
