Fire ban in place for MD of Taber

May 28, 2018 | 2:19 PM

MD OF TABER, AB — A fire ban is currently in effect for the Municipal District of Taber.

The ban was put in place at noon on Monday due to extremely dry conditions around the municipality. The ban restricts large open fires within the region, and all fire permits are now invalid until the ban is lifted.

The fire ban includes the Grassy Lake Campground and the Grassy Lake Forks Recreation Area.

The band does not include small backyard fire pits, the MD of Taber Park, Enchant Campground, Hays Campground, Vauxhall Lions Campground, landfills within the municipal boundaries and burning barrels with a wire mesh screen no larger than 7 millimetres in size.

The fire ban will remain in place until conditions change to reduce the extreme fire hazard.

Failure to follow the conditions of the fire ban can result in a fine from the MD of Taber or an invoice from the responding department called to extinguish a fire.

Fire restrictions are currently in place in Cypress County, the County of Newell and the MD of Acadia, while a fire advisory is in place in the County of 40 Mile.
