Trial for pharmacist charged with fraud begins today
MEDICINE HAT, AB — The trial for one of three pharmacists accused of defrauding Co-op is getting underway this week in Medicine Hat.
Robert Stadnyk’s trial begins Monday morning at provincial court. It is currently scheduled to run until Thursday.
Stadnyk is facing one charge of fraud over $5,000, and another charge of theft over $5,000 in connection with a 2015 investigation by the Alberta College fo Pharmacists. He, along with fellow pharmacists Kathy Kieser and Evan King, were charged by Medicine Hat police in 2016 following the investigation.
According to the Alberta College of Pharmacists, King, Kieser and Stadnyk allegedly negotiated drug purchases, rebates and incentives on behalf of Medicine Hat Co-op (now South Country Co-op). However, the College of Pharmacists allege the incentives, in the form of gift and prepaid credit cards and travel vouchers, were provided to the pharmacists for their personal use.
