REDCLIFF, AB — The Prairie Rose School Division celebrated the first graduates from one of its schools on Saturday.

Elena Wall and Isaak Wiens became the first two graduates of the Redcliff Mennonite Alternative Program Outreach School since it opened in 2013. The two were celebrated on Saturday as they received their high school diploma.

“Having two graduates this year is a huge accomplishment for the school and the students,” said Tracy Frank, school principal, in a news release. “We are very proud of Elena and Isaak who both graduate with honours while juggling full-time jobs.”

Redcliff Mennonite Alternative Program currently has 66 students enrolled in the day time program from grades Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as six students who take part in night education.

The news release says many Mennonite students will traditionally leave school early to work and help support their family. Wall was able to attend the day program until Grade 11, and then switched to the night program. Wiens completed the program through the night program will working full time.

“I have worked long and hard to receive my high school diploma,” says Wiens in a statement. “I am thankful to have a school like RMAP available to keep me focused and motivated along my journey.”

“I am proud to be the very first female graduate of RMAP School,” added Wall. “I look forward to continuing my education in child care.”

The school opened its doors in 2013.
