From the pits to behind the wheel for Lethbridge couple

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A sweltering Saturday evening at the Medicine Hat Speedway was capped off by a spur of the moment race involving members of the pit crew.

Lethbridge’s Jeff Reimer and his wife Charmaine were enlisted to compete in the final event of the night, going behind the wheel of two powder puff race cars.

Despite some problems off the hop and needing the car to be jumped, Jeff took the checkered flag with Charmaine close behind in second.

Jeff explained how the racing thrill came together on Saturday.

“Duncan McLaren and my brother-in-law Will Voth, from White Lightning Racing here, this is their home track here in Med Hat,” said Reimer. “They love it and said, ‘Hey it’s the pit crew, there’s an opportunity to try it out.’ I said, ‘I’m scared, but I did it.’ It was awesome.”

The Reimers joked that the drive home could be a bit awkward, but according to Jeff it was a special opportunity they couldn’t pass up.

“The gentleman here that runs the track, he said, ‘I got some gear for you, do you want to try it?’” said Reimer. “So, she went in Will Voth’s car #77 and I went in Duncan McLaren’s in #78, so a huge thank you to those guys and the track here. The power under those cars is just phenomenal.”

In the Hobby Stock division, Jason Koska took first place over Jareme Koska, while Ross Statham was crowned the victor of the Elite Street Stock division.

Wayne Seaward picked up another victory in his ‘Spiderman truck’ in the Renegade Trucks class, with Tess Seaward winning in the Powder Puff division.

Fan Appreciation Days will highlight the next slate of races at the Speedway on July 15 and 16, featuring the Baby Grands, IMCA Modified, and Mini-Cup classes.
