Mason Shaw cleared to skate

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mason Shaw recently received some good news from his doctors.

The Medicine Hat Tigers forward, who has been sidelined with a torn ACL since September, has been cleared to resume skating by team doctors with the Minnesota Wild.

Shaw confirmed the news to CHAT News Today during a phone call from Minnesota Wednesday afternoon. He had finished a physio session and went to see the doctors, including his surgeon, for more tests, and they ruled he can lace up his skates again.

“I’m very excited. I came down here looking for that news, and to be able to leave Minnesota knowing I can come back on skates is something I’m looking forward to, and it’s a long time coming,” he said. “It’s time to get some skates on.”

Drafted by the Wild in the 4th round (97th overall) last year, Shaw suffered the injury during a prospects tournament game on September 10 at Minnesota’s training camp, when a player fell on his right leg. A MRI discovered the tear to the ligament, and he underwent surgery on September 25.

The 19-year-old was named captain of the Tigers to begin this season, but after tearing apart his knee, fellow teammate Mark Rassell stepped up to wear the “C”.

There is no timetable yet for Shaw’s return, but he is still hoping to return to the team before the start of the playoffs. He will be heading back to Minnesota next month to be fitted for a knee brace and try to get cleared for contact.
