Rail repairs to bring temporary road and trail closures in Medicine Hat

The City of Medicine Hat says rail repairs will bring temporary road and trail closures on both sides of the South Saskatchewan River.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City has begun scheduled work on the railway bridge, prompting daytime closures from May 6 to 11.

On the south side, River Road Southeast and part of the Kiwanis Centennial Trail will be closed between Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park and the Maple Avenue bridge daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The City says that all three parkades on River Road will remain accessible from Fourth Avenue Southeast during this closure.

They add there is no impact for the Medicine Hat Public Library and the Fourth Avenue Southeast businesses south of First Street, or Ash Avenue Southeast off Maple Avenue Southeast and First Street Southeast.

On the north side, Parkview Drive and a section of the Trans-Canada Trail under the bridge will be closed May 8 to 11 during the same hours.

City officials say access to nearby businesses and facilities will remain available, and ask the public for patience during the work.
