Police confirm death in vehicle explosion and fire in Walmart parking lot

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police have confirmed one death in the vehicle explosion and fire in the Walmart parking lot on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say one male died as a result of injuries sustained.

At the scene on Wednesday afternoon, Sgt. Harley Kesler of Medicine Hat Police Service said it’s believed there was someone in the vehicle at the time.

“We’ve talked to witnesses, there are some witnesses that advise there was a person in the vehicle at the time as part of that we do have a right obligation to protect the privacy interests of anybody involved in the vehicle,” he said.

The MHPS Major Crimes Section is continuing the investigation however as it is not criminal in nature no further information will be released.
