Trial date set for doctor charged with sexual assault

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A doctor charged with sexual assault is scheduled to go to trial in December.

Dr. Ian Gebhardt, 56, will go to trial before a judge in Medicine Hat provincial court on December 6-7.

Gebhardt was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation of a person with a disability in August 2017. The alleged incident took place at a walk-in clinic on June 2017.

The identity of the complainant is under a publication ban.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta confirmed in August that Gebhardt had suspended his practice after the charges were laid.
