Former Wildrose Party leader Jean resigning from politics
EDMONTON, AB – Former Wildrose Party leader Brian Jean will be stepping away from politics, announcing his resignation from the Alberta legislature.
Jean, the MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin, was elected leader of the Wildrose Party in 2015, defeating current Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes after Danielle Smith and eight other party members crossed the floor to the Progressive Conservative Party.
The Wildrose and the PCs joined forces in a merger last July, with Jean losing to current United Conservative Party head Jason Kenney in the leadership vote.
Jean was also a well known name during the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires, as the politician was one of hundreds to lose their homes in the blaze.
