MEDICINE HAT, AB — One of the two men charged with murder in the death of a 24-year-old man in Crescent Heights last year will not have a preliminary hearing.

Aaron Anand Ford made a brief appearance via CCTV from Calgary on Wednesday, where he was adjourned to August 11 to set a trial date.

Ford, 22, was arrested alongside Jacob Porfoun in connection with the death of Dustin Hewer in Crescent Heights last November. Hewer, 24, died on Nov. 5 from “sharp force trauma,” according to the Medical Examiner. Porfound was arrested on scne, while Ford was arrested the next day following a brief manhunt.

Both Ford and Porfoun were both charged with second-degree murder, however last week, Porfoun pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in connection with the death. He received a sentence of six-and-a-half years in prison, but with time served, will spend five-and-a-half years behind bars.
