Fire crews extinguish balcony blaze

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Residents in a third floor condo unit in Riverside didn’t know there was a fire on their deck, until emergency crews arrived to put it out.

Firefighters were called to the complex in the 1600 block of Saamis Drive NW just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but did spread from a planter, to the floor on the balcony and some siding.

Crews were forced to cut into the deck to make sure the fire didn’t spread.

The people inside were unharmed and no other injuries were reported.

The cause is still under investigation.
