Guests evacuated after Banff hotel catches fire
BANFF, AB — Fire crews were kept busy Thursday morning, as a historic hotel in Banff went up in flames.
Crews worked to save the Mount Royal Hotel, which has been open since 1908, after an RCMP officer saw flames shooting out of the roof at approximately 2 a.m. The Banff Fire Department is located across the street from the hotel.
The RCMP officer went into the hotel and pulled the fire alarm and got to work evacuating guests.
Additional crews, including the Canmore Fire-Rescue agency and firefighters from Exshaw and Lake Louise, arrived to assist the Banff fire department.
