Thomas Crockford
October 29, 1950 ~ September 24, 2020
Thomas Bertram Crockford passed away in the ICU at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the age of 69 years. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Wallace Walter and Florence Lillie Crockford; his older brother James as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Tom is survived by his step-brother, Trevor (Monika) Brown; sister, Donna (Glen) West; brother, Tim (Cathy) Crockford; nephews and nieces, Brian (Brenda) Brown, Debbie Thomson, Natasha Banks (Mike), January (Jay) Clark, and Matthew Crockford (Kaylen Brzezinski) as well as special friends, Shelly Wagner and Greg Bueckert. Tom was born in Medicine Hat and enjoyed growing up here with access to Kin Coulee and his cousins on the flats. He started his working life first with Domglas, and upon its closure, attended Lethbridge Community College and the University of Western Montana in Great Falls earning a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. Employment opportunities with Canada Corrections, Canadian Border Services and Saskatchewan Parks took up the remainder of his working days. Tom’s love of collecting took him near and far to garage and auction sales, filling up every nook and cranny he could with things he enjoyed and what he thought others would too. What some would call junk, they were treasures to him and filled another chapter in his book “The Art of the Purchase”. While some thought Tom was shy and introverted, he warmed up to everyone he met. You knew he liked you if he was quick to tease. A grump and a miserable old man who had a heart of gold and a long memory. “Forgive your enemy, but remember the bastard’s name”. Tom had many such sayings, most he learned from his father. He will always be remembered for his random acts of kindness and the sly smiles he rarely shared. He will live on in our hearts and our memories. A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery where Tom will rest beside his brother, Jim. Due to restrictions in place from the Chief Medical Officer of Health regarding COVID – 19, funeral services are currently limited to no more than 100 attendees.
