It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shirley Mae Schmidt at the River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the age of 91 years. Left to cherish Shirley’s memory is her son, Bradley (Teresa); daughter, Pamela Dayle; grandchildren, Grant, William, Charlie and Matthew; step-grandchildren, Haley and Kylie; siblings, Joyce (Albert) of Trenton, ON, Bowen ‘Sonny’ (Elgolda Bowser) of Public Landing, NB and Betty Ann of Shelburne, NS, as well as numerous nieces and nephews from Eastern Canada. She was predeceased by her husband, Warner ‘Verne’ in 2002 as well as her son, Grant in 1975. Shirley was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on May 8, 1929, daughter of Bowen and Ethel Smith. Shirley and Verne moved to Medicine Hat in 1973 where Verne taught electronics at Medicine Hat High School. She was a stay at home mom who dedicated herself to raising her children. A graveside service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at Hillside Cemetery, 1280 – 10 Avenue S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. with Major Murray Jaster officiating.
